IOW Festival 2011

award winning green event & pr consultancy

The rains came but only after we had a taste of summer and a fantastic weekend of beats, bees and beer.
2011 was always going to be a great year for us owing to the news that the bee reserve we launched last year, as part of the Isle of Wight Festival’s Let it Bee campaign, was being taken to the European Union by Green MEP Keith Taylor. He will be proposing it as a blueprint for best practice in protecting and supporting bee populations Europe-wide. To date more than a 100 species of bees and wasps have been found on The Field of Hope, some extremely rare to the UK.
Other great things that happened in 2011 were The Garden Stage powered solely by renewables – it was great to see so many solar panels lined up, a real visual aid to the environmental message going out to the audience, thanks to Firefly Solar.
The sight of so many people cycling to charge their mobile phones was amazing, The kinetic bikes were in use all weekend – Power to the People.
The vibe of The Hive was amazing. Our eco showcase field became a real destination this year with the Kashmir Café serving local food and ale and welcoming some local bands on their small acoustic stage; People found out about our bee campaign thanks to our environmental charity partner Gift to Nature; and UNICEF joined us to promote their Get Children Climate Ready campaign. Watch their film short here to find out more
They also hosted a secret acoustic gig by main stage act, Stornoway; which blew the audience away.
To find out more and to see the messages of support by artists including We Are Scientists, Imelda May and Lissie watch our film shorts shot throughout the weekend:
